After making the playoffs for the first time in 4 years, their young core, showed up in the playoffs, eliminating the Pittsburgh Penguins in the play-in rounds. Throughout that series, the Canadians saw unexpected players perform, and showed that you don't need a superstar, to succeed in the NHL. Young starts Nick Suzuki (Above), and Jesperi Kotkanemi helped out Carey Price, by carrying there team past the Penguins, who won back-to back Stanley Cups in 2016, and 2017. With these performances alone, it demonstrated that you cannot count out this young lineup, and I would not be surprised to see them lift the Stanley Cup, in a few years.
Going into the offseason, Habs GM Marc Bergevin knew that he needed to make moves, if he wanted to see his team succeed, and he did just that. Immediately picking up Jake Allen, to back up Carey Price, and added Joel Edmundson, to add some veteran experience in the dressing room. If that wasn't enough, Bergevin picked up former Stanley Cup champion Tyler Toffoli, to add some depth to their already amazing roster. Bergevin also resigned Brendan Gallagher, a grinder, and a key piece to this team for another 6 years.
Here are the youngsters that the Canadians have on their team: Nick Suzuki (21)
Jesperi Kotkaniemi (20)
Cole Caufield (19)
Cayden Primeau (21) Alexander Romanov (20)
Ryan Poelhling (21)
Victor Mete (22)
After watching the moves this team has made over the past few years, I expect to see the Habs make the playoffs at the very least, next season, and would love to see them make a good run at the cup in the next few years.
